Enjoying Extreme Sports!

The rush of adrenaline, the wind in your face, the numbness in your arms.

Words fall short for describing the amazing experience of doing extreme sports. When I grab the handles of my dirt bike and take it for a ride around the course at 65 miles per hour, I feel as if the world reduces to the excitement drain by the adrenaline.

Motocross and extreme sports in general are, by far, more dangerous than an average soccer game. The risk of breaking an arm from falling of your dirt bike, or being on your bed for weeks because you didn’t properly secure the ropes when doing rappel is always present.

However, none of that make extreme sports any less fulfilling. In fact, the danger of being seriously hurt may be one its most attractive aspects. It does not matter if it is motocross or parasailing, everyone should, at least once, try a extreme sports. It is a liberating experience, and extreme sports agencies are easily found in malls and the outskirts of the city.

The first thing you want to do if you’re going to try extreme sports is choosing the activity. Each sport is tailored to fit the characteristics of the people that practice it, so it’s a matter of thinking whether you want to go high or fast, or whether you want to practice with a lot of people or in a solitary environment.

You must find a qualified instructor. This kind of activities, and their implications, are not to be taken lightly. People train for years in order to provide safe services to the general public, which means that if you go rock climbing with an instructor, your chances of being injured are reduced to nearly zero.

When you find an instructor, the next thing you have to do is to get acquainted with the equipment, to learn everything you can, and to feel at home when wearing the gear. When you have trained enough and feel as one with your helmet and your bike (in case you have the good fortune of trying motocross), you are ready to take the next big step: going out and doing it.

However, be warned. You must not underestimate what you will feel when you are hanging over a deadly precipice. After you get hooked on extreme sports, there is no way back. Think of it as the most amazing habit you will develop.
